A Socio-Medical Survey on the Cured Leprosy Patients at the Resettlement Area in Kyunggi-do, Korea

Abstract
A socio-medical survey was carried out toward 220 cured leprosy patients who had been resided at the resettlement area in Kyunggi-do during the period from 27 June to 3 August, 1968. As the result of this study, the following conclusions were obtained.
1. Among the total, 35¡­39 years of age group occupied highest with 30.0% by age, farmer with 36.4% in past and poultry man with 56.3% at present by occupation, respectively.
2. Regarding birth place, it was observed that persons from Chollanam-do topped with 29.1%, and persons from Cheju-do and Hamkyungnam-do were last with 0.5%, respectively.
3. Out of the total, 43.6% were primary school graduates, while 0.9% were theological college graduates.
4. It was found that 53.1% of the total believed in protestant.
5. Regarding monthly income, 5,000¡­7,500 Won group occupied 30.4%, while more than 15,000 Won group 2.3%.
6. Regarding the period of residence at resettlement area, 7¡­8 years group ranked first with 28.1% and 11¡­12 years group last with 0.9%.
7. Out of the total, 59.1% had no hobbies. also it was shown that 52.7% had experience of drinking and 65.5% of smoking in the past, while 40. % drink and 62.7% smoke at present.
8. Out of the total, 43.2% were not satisfied at their present lives and 42.3% contacted with healthy persons without any unusual feelings.
9. It was observed that 51.8% wanted to return to usual society while 48.2% didn¢¥t. Regarding the reasons for return to usual society "wishing to have normal life" ranked first with 42.1%, while economical reason occupied 37.5% among those who didn¢¥t want to return to usual society.
10. Among the hopes in future, business expansion racked first with 38.6% and education of children came next in order with 15.5%.
11. In the age of incidence. 15¡­19 years of age group ranked first with 30.5%, while 1¡­4 years group last with 0.5%. In the age of cure. 25¡­29 years of age groups ranked first with 28.2%, while 30¡­40 years group occupied 18.2%. In the period of prevalence, 5¡­9 years group ranked first with 34.1%, while 35¡­39 years group last with 2.3%.
12. In the source of information about family planning, newspaper and radio ranked first with 55.9%, while movie last with 0.5%.
